Vibrators and sex toys are some of the best inventions around. Many women (and some men) will tell you that as much as they enjoy sex, the biggest
orgasms occur while masturbating using a vibrator. Having used my
good ol'
Hitachi often, I'm not sure I can disagree with that.
Also, if a woman has never had an orgasm, (or isn't sure if she has) a good vibrator can almost always do the trick. For many women learning to orgasm is something that takes a little work. Trying to figure it out first during sex can often cause anxiety and stress. Masturbation is helpful because once you learn to let your body and mind experience sexual pleasure by yourself you will be far more able to enjoy it with your partner.
Good vibrators aren't cheap. In fact, the only real drawback to vibrators is that you usually do get what you pay for. Not only do the less expensive vibrators break often, the amount or type of vibration is usually not the best. Of course for every vibrator on the market there are hundreds of women who swear that theirs is the best so personal taste overrides any opinion I might have. But in general, the more you spend the more you get. (Many times on this site I recommend less expensive options for other products, but there just aren't any cheap vibrators that I've liked anywhere near as much as the higher quality ones.)
The following is an overview of the different types of vibrators, including my favorites in each category. I have tried all of these and many others as well. Most anything can be fun, but some are definitely more fun than others.
Clitoral Vibrator Reviews
These are specifically designed to stimulate a woman's
clitoris. Many of these also come with an attached dildo for vaginal penetration as well. For many women the stimulation of the clit during masturbation is the most important aspect of achieving an orgasm. For others it provides the most intense orgasm while masturbating or when included during
sex with a partner.

first heard about the Jack Rabbit on HBO's Sex and the City. It was
an episode where Charlotte became addicted to her sex toy so of
course I had to try it. WOW! It was so much fun. It is a dildo with
a clitoral stimulator on top which allows me to penetrate myself

of me which hits everywhere I want. I especially like it when I'm

This is one of my first sex toys and I still love it. It is small and quiet so I can take it with me everywhere (and I do). It is surprisingly powerful so it works pretty quickly. It's best for traveling because I can fit it into a small cosmetics case. If you're worried at all about making noise, this is one of the quietest out there.TIP: Don't start out just vibrating your clit. If you go straight there and leave it there you can begin to loose a little sensation for a while. During masturbation, I think of the areas around my clit and
vagina as foreplay and I usually go to the clit most often when it's time to come.
Premium Vibrators
This is another category that refers to vibrators that just don't fit into the other categories. There's a wide variety of
sex toys here that do all sorts of different things. My

I love this one because I can leave it out when my parents come to visit and nobody's the wiser. It's also great if you have nosy roommates, you share a dorm room, are bringing it through airport security, or are in any other situation where you might feel embarrassed being caught with a sexual vibrator. Because this adult toy also doubles as a traditional massager, nobody thinks anything funny if they find it. I almost forgot, it's also REALLY powerful and brings me to orgasm even if I use it over my pants. In fact, it's almost better over something rather than directly on my clit.
Conventional VibratorsThese are most often shaped like a traditional
dildo. Their main advantage is that they are shaped in a way that allows you to use them for penetration also. Another great thing is that some are curved to let you get to your
g-spot. Masturbation is a great time to begin experimenting with finding and stimulating this area. My Favorites:
 Powerful Pulsonic Wand

This one's neat because of the flexible handle.
I pull this one out sometimes if I plan on being in an unusual
position. It vibrates pretty well, too, but I usually use it inside
on my g-spot.
 5X Giga Power Chrome Slimline Vibe

If you really can't spend the money of a top of
the line vibrator, this is probably your best option. It has 5
speeds and is pretty powerful.
TIP: Any time you stimulate your g-spot you may feel like you have to pee. When you vibrate it, the sensation might even be more extreme. Most likely you don't have to go. The g-spot is located directly below your bladder, which is why you feel this way. My female ejaculation article explains why this feeling can be a good thing.
Venus VibratorsThese are the vibrators that fasten themselves in some way that allows for "hands free" clitoral stimulation. I think their original intention was to be used to create clitoral stimulation during sex, but they are in fact great for masturbating as well.

 Impulse Butterfly

Here's one I learned from someone who wrote in. What I do is attach the vibrating butterfly in a position where it will vibrate my clit. I then do any number of things that turn me on, like watching an adult movie, reading erotica, or whatever. Rather than thinking about the goal of having an orgasm, I simply enjoy whatever is turning me on and let the Butterfly make me come whenever it wants to. I also enjoy the fact that I can lie on my stomach reading without trying to reach all the way under me like I would with another sex toy.
 Remote Control Sea Shell

This is an expensive alternative to the Butterfly, but has a couple of extra features that I like. First, it has a several-inch dildo attached to the inside which not only stimulates my vagina, but also helps keep the toy in place. Also, it has a remote control which could allow your partner to play (perhaps in public), but is also just more convenient than dealing with a cord.
